what’s new on Av. Presidente Vargas / O que tem de novo na Av. Presidente Vargas

[UPDATE Dec. 14, 2010]

According to O Globo, Rio city hall wants to turn Av. Presidente Vargas into a carioca Champs Elysées. Already, the avenue has been repaved; this week its 450 public light fixtures are being updated to provide 30% more light. The median strips will also be  remodeled and the Candelária church at one end of the avenue will be illuminated. Most of the work is set to be completed by Carnival, which falls in March next year.
